Tis the Season

Tis the Season

Lisa O

As the holiday season comes to a close, I find myself both exhausted and filled with joy. Reflecting on last year, my daughter Zara was just three months old during Christmas and New Year—a beautifully peaceful little bundle who napped wherever she was and soaked up cuddles from family all day long. This year, however, was a completely different story! At 15 months old, Zara is a lively and energetic toddler, eager to run, play, and join the party. Sleep? Not if she suspects there’s fun to be had!

Our family is lucky to be very close with both our extended family and friends, which meant a busy month filled with social events. In fact, we had a stretch of nine consecutive days of gatherings including Christmas, a wedding and many parties. How did we survive this whirlwind? The key was flexibility. We don’t follow a rigid routine with Zara, and while this approach might not work for everyone, it’s been a lifesaver for us. Without the stress of sticking to specific sleep schedules or worrying about late bedtimes, we embraced the chaos. Zara napped whenever and wherever she could, and we were free to enjoy each moment without the weight of unnecessary pressure.Sometimes she would have a late nap in the car or an early one in the pram, eat on the go or just not sleep at all. None of it mattered, what was most important is that she got to spend time with the people who love her and honestly I feel like her language and physical development skyrocketed in this time. By the end of the period we were all very exhausted but knowing that this busy time is temporary and things will settle back into place as the new year unfolds makes it an easy way to relax and try and enjoy the festivities that the new year brings.

Rest easy,

Lisa x
